Complex PTSD (cPTSD)

Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD) is a condition that results from chronic or long-term exposure to trauma, typically during childhood or adolescence. Unlike PTSD, which can develop after a single traumatic event, cPTSD arises from repeated trauma over months or years. This prolonged exposure can be due to various situations, such as ongoing domestic abuse, neglect, human trafficking, or living in a war zone.
Symptoms of cPTSD include:

Generational Trauma

Generational trauma, also known as transgenerational or intergenerational trauma, refers to trauma that is passed down from one generation to the next. It occurs when the psychological and emotional effects of trauma experienced by a previous generation impact the health, relationships, or well-being of their descendants.

Examples of Generational Trauma include:
  • Historical traumas such as those experienced by Indigenous communities, descendants of enslaved peoples, and survivors of war.
  • Patterns of domestic violence, substance abuse, or mental health struggles passed down within families.
